NHDT Hair Transplant Cost in Mumbai —
What to Expect

By Dr Viral Desai  |  Founder, NHDT India  |  April 2026  |  5 min read

One of the most common questions I receive from patients considering NHDT is: "How much does it cost?" It is a fair and important question — and the honest answer is that it depends on several individual factors.

Unlike buying a product off a shelf, hair transplant pricing is deeply personalised. Two patients sitting in the same clinic on the same day can have very different cost outcomes based on their degree of hair loss, the density they desire, and the number of grafts required to achieve that result.

In this guide, I will walk you through every factor that determines NHDT hair transplant cost in Mumbai — so you can walk into your consultation informed and without surprises.

Key point: NHDT is a premium, patented technique. It is not the cheapest option in Mumbai — but for thousands of patients, it delivers results in a single session that other techniques require multiple procedures to achieve.

What Factors Determine NHDT Hair Transplant Cost?

1. Number of Grafts Required

This is the single biggest cost driver. A graft is one hair follicular unit — typically containing 1 to 4 hairs. The number of grafts you need depends entirely on your Norwood scale grade (degree of baldness) and the density you want to achieve.

A patient with early-stage hair loss (Norwood 2–3) may need 1,500–2,500 grafts. Someone with advanced baldness (Norwood 5–6) may require 3,500–5,000+ grafts. The more grafts required, the higher the total cost.

2. Degree and Pattern of Hair Loss

The extent of your balding area directly determines how many grafts are needed to cover it adequately. A receding hairline requires significantly fewer grafts than full crown restoration. During your consultation, I use a computer-assisted hair analysis to map your loss pattern precisely and give you an accurate graft estimate.

3. Desired Density

Some patients want a natural-looking result with moderate density. Others — especially younger patients or those in the public eye — want maximum, high-density results. NHDT can achieve both, but higher density requires more grafts per square centimetre, which affects the total count and cost accordingly.

4. Donor Area Quality

The back and sides of your scalp are the donor zone. Patients with thick, dense donor hair can extract more grafts per session. Patients with a finer or more limited donor zone may require a more conservative approach. I assess donor quality carefully at the consultation to set realistic expectations.

5. Number of Sessions Required

Most NHDT patients achieve their desired result in a single session — this is one of NHDT's key advantages over standard FUE, which often requires two or more sessions to achieve comparable density. However, patients with very advanced hair loss or very high density goals may benefit from a planned second session 12 months after the first.

Approximate NHDT Graft Guide

Norwood Grade Hair Loss Pattern Approximate Grafts
Grade 2–3Hairline recession, early thinning1,500 – 2,500
Grade 3–4Moderate hairline + crown thinning2,500 – 3,500
Grade 4–5Significant crown and front loss3,500 – 4,500
Grade 5–6Extensive baldness, large area4,500 – 5,500+
Grade 6–7Advanced baldness across scalpConsultation required

These are indicative ranges only. Your actual graft requirement is determined during the consultation after a thorough hair and scalp analysis.

Is NHDT Worth the Cost?

This is the question I am asked most often — and my answer is always the same: compare the total cost of ownership, not just the procedure price.

Many patients who opt for a cheaper FUE procedure in Mumbai end up needing a second session 12–18 months later because the density was insufficient, or because the results did not look as natural as expected. When you add the cost of the second procedure, anaesthesia, recovery time, and the emotional toll of a suboptimal result, NHDT almost always works out to be the more economical choice over a 2–3 year horizon.

NHDT's precision implantation — placing every follicle at the exact angle, depth, and direction — means results are achieved correctly the first time. The transplanted hair is permanent, grows for life, and requires no ongoing maintenance costs.

What is Included in the Cost?

At Dr Viral Desai's clinic, the NHDT procedure cost includes pre-operative hair and scalp analysis, the full NHDT procedure, single-use titanium extraction tools, post-operative care instructions, and follow-up consultations to monitor your progress. There are no hidden charges.

"My goal is to give every patient a result they are proud of — not just a procedure they can afford. Cost should never be the reason someone settles for a lower standard of care." — Dr Viral Desai

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a cost estimate before my consultation?

A rough estimate is possible based on photos, but an accurate cost can only be determined after a physical examination of your scalp, donor area, and hair quality. We encourage you to book a consultation so you receive a personalised, no-obligation cost plan.

Is the consultation free?

A consultation fee applies. This fee covers a comprehensive hair and scalp analysis, computer-assisted mapping of your loss pattern, and a detailed discussion of your treatment options, expected results, and cost. The consultation fee is adjusted against the procedure cost if you decide to proceed.

Are there EMI or financing options?

Yes. We work with select financing partners to offer EMI options for patients who prefer to spread the cost. Details are available at the clinic during your consultation.

Does the cost vary between Mumbai and Pune clinics?

The cost of NHDT is standardised across both our Mumbai and Pune clinics. You can choose whichever location is more convenient for you.
